Case study: Global Programme Director

Scope

In October 2020 Altum Consulting were engaged by a FTSE 100 global consumer business with an annual turnover of £10 billion, 40,000 employees and operations across 150+ countries. The organisation just had ExCo approval on a high level design principle for a business wide transformation programme. This programme would revolutionise the way the business uses data and technology that would globalise the organisation. The challenge the business faced was a history of independent programmes being run in silos across the business and therefore many stalled or failed initiatives. This transformation initiative needed to be run at a global level, with buy In from all key stakeholders across the organisation.

They invited Altum Consulting to scope out the role and begin their global search for a Global Programme Director who could take the business on this journey.

Challenges

Candidate identification - Due to the confidentiality of the search we approached this in two ways; headhunting and referrals. Headhunting came via LinkedIn and referrals through multiple channels, including through our sister company, Azura Search, who have an extensive network of C-Suite and Non-Exec Directors and leveraging our networks with the Tier-1 consulting practices.

Candidate Skillset - Due to a large and dominant presence in Asia this Programme Director needed to have a successful track record delivering within and outside of this region. Their experience also needed to be within a business where the supply chain is extensive and complex.

Outcome

After highlighting and qualifying talent across UK, EMEA, APAC and The Americas we presented a diverse and anonymised shortlist of three candidates to the C-Suite board. This had key data and metrics about the search process with all the qualifying criteria which was used to shortlist the right candidate (INSERT HERE). From this, a successful appointment of their 1st choice candidate was made (£1500pd) before Christmas and they started their multi-year transformation journey in Q1 2021.
