The SPEAR programme was set up by Resurgo to help young people facing disadvantage into the workplace. The programme aims to equip them with confidence, motivation and the vital skills they need to succeed in long-term employment. The programme involves coaching, practical training and a year support.
Altum Consulting has been supporting the SPEAR programme with particle training, which includes mock interviews and office visits, for several years. As the Government restrictions have come into place, Resurgo has had to deliver their training programme virtually.
Last week our team held virtual mock interviews with the young people. This was the first time our team in Amsterdam were able to get involved with support Resurgo which is a UK based charity. It was also the first time the Resurgo SPEAR programme had an International mock interview!

Last week I had the pleasure of being a part of Resurgo’s 4-week programme supporting young adults facing disadvantage getting into the workplace.
As part of their final week of the SPEAR programme, I conducted two mock interviews over the phone with one of the trainees who had Asperger Syndrome. The idea of this exercise was to build the trainee’s confidence by developing interview techniques and to prepare them for what real interviews would be like.
Having never worked with Resurgo before this was such an enlightening experience that I was glad to have been a part of. It allowed me to understand how much these young people truly value and require the support that this charity offers them through building confidence in areas such as small talk, teaching them how to engage with people they haven’t met before and offering essential interview techniques, that will aid the trainees in securing their first job.
Overall, it was a fantastic opportunity for both myself and the trainee and I am so glad that we live in a digital era that enables charities such as Resurgo (SPEAR) to continue the amazing work they are already doing.
