Altum Consulting hosted an informative workshop in the London office on the 25th February. The workshop was put on for interim contractors, both working through us and within our network, to provide an opportunity to learn about the legislative changes to IR35 and the impact it will have on them.
Tania Bowers, ApsCo’s General Counsel, presented a session outlining what the updates to IR35 meant in practice and the potential models that could be applied if an individual is classified inside IR35.
Next to present was Emma Naylor, Account Director from Giant, the UK’s largest provider of agency solutions including payroll and umbrella for contractors. Giant have several options for interim contractors including PSC through IR35 fee payer, umbrella company and PEO.
It was a great opportunity for Altum Consulting to bring our network together, spend the evening catching-up, and preparing next steps for when the IR35 changes come into full effect.
We know that IR35 is causing an upheaval in the way that interim contractors are employed in the UK. Initially, we saw a rise in clients recruiting fixed-term contract roles, however, over the last couple of weeks with increased knowledge of what the legislative changes mean in practice many of our clients are simply determining their business as usual finance/accountancy roles “Inside IR35”. This creates opportunities for our current network as we have seen an uplift in day rate vacancies. Contractors can utilise these opportunities and ensure they are also prepared for the steps they need to take before the changes come in on 6th April 2020.
