Case Study: Marks & Spencer

Sourcing quality candidates for finance roles at one of the UK’s leading retailers.

Marks & Spencer is one of the UK’s largest and best-loved retailers with revenues of over £10bn from its domestic and international operations. Over a 3-month period, Altum Consulting proved it could deliver a high volume of quality candidates for roles throughout the business’s finance function and secured a place on M&S’s preferred supplier list.

The challenge: finding a high volume of quality finance candidates

Marks & Spencer, undertaking a review of their preferred supplier list (PSL) for the first time in several years, were unhappy with their roster of recruitment solution providers. They were looking to appoint agencies which could support a high volume of roles in their finance function, which supports an organisation with over 979 UK stores and over 84,000 employees, but also deliver quality candidates across all levels of finance and accountancy, from part-qualified accountants up to Head of Finance.

The solution: Altum outperforms other agencies in a 3-month trial

Altum was invited to take part in a trial to find agencies who could deliver against M&S’s demanding finance recruitment challenges. During the trial, Altum consultants competed against five other agencies to fill outstanding vacancies over a 3-month period.

Not only was Altum able to deal with the high volume and variety of roles that Marks & Spencer were looking to fill, we also delivered finance candidates of a quality that other agencies were unable to match.

The results: Altum provides proactive, tailored support for M&S’s finance hiring

The trial period concluded with Altum being appointed to Marks & Spencer’s new preferred supplier list, having successfully delivered quality candidates to successfully fill a number of roles throughout the finance function.

Our relationship with M&S continues to flourish, as we support them on a continuing basis with proactive, tailored support for their large and developing recruitment requirements in finance and accountancy.
